Indian red onion exporter to Qatar: supply to Hamad Port with WATHEQ compliance
AL NOOR EXIM ships Indian red onions to Qatar wholesale buyers via Hamad Port, Doha. Qatar requires WATHEQ pre-registration through MoPH before any shipment is booked — we walk your team through what is needed on our side.
⚠ Qatar requires WATHEQ registration — arrange this BEFORE booking
Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) mandates that every food consignment entering Hamad Port must be pre-registered on the WATHEQ portal by the Qatar importer. A shipment that arrives without a valid WATHEQ registration can be detained or rejected.
- The Qatar importer registers on WATHEQ at moph.gov.qa and adds AL NOOR EXIM as the Indian supplier
- A MoPH Certificate of Conformity (CoC) from an approved conformity assessment body is also required before loading
- WhatsApp us to get our company registration details, IEC and APEDA numbers ready for your WATHEQ application
The Strait of Hormuz remains closed to commercial cargo. There are no direct sailings to Qatar. Shipments from Nhava Sheva discharge at Fujairah or Khor Fakkan (UAE), then connect to Hamad Port, Doha via Sharjah feeder service. Capacity is limited and rates carry Hormuz surcharges. All freight is quoted per booking; do not commit your buyer to a landed price before obtaining a live rate from your forwarder.

Frequently asked questions — Qatar onion import
What is WATHEQ and is it required to import onions into Qatar?
WATHEQ is Qatar’s MoPH (Ministry of Public Health) mandatory food import pre-registration system. The Qatar importer registers on the WATHEQ portal at moph.gov.qa, adds the Indian supplier, and receives an approved import reference before any cargo can be booked. A shipment arriving at Hamad Port without a valid WATHEQ registration will be detained. There is no exception for small consignments.
Which port handles Indian onion imports in Qatar?
Hamad Port, located south of Doha, is Qatar’s primary commercial container terminal for food imports. There is no alternative entry port for containerised cargo.
What onion grades and packing do you supply to Qatar?
We supply 45 mm+ and 55 mm+ Indian red onions in 25 kg ventilated mesh bags. These grades are standard for Qatar wholesale and food-service buyers. We do not mix grades within a container; agree the grade before booking.
How long does transit take from India to Qatar now?
Transit is longer than pre-2026 because of Hormuz rerouting. Expect approximately 25–32 days from Nhava Sheva to Hamad Port via Fujairah and the Sharjah feeder, subject to feeder vessel schedule. Your freight forwarder will confirm on booking.
Can you provide your IEC and APEDA numbers for the WATHEQ application?
Yes, immediately on request. WhatsApp us and we share our IEC (ACFFA1996C), APEDA RCMC number (RCMC/APEDA/08543/2024-2025), GSTIN, company name and address exactly as they appear on our registration certificates, so your WATHEQ application goes through cleanly.
Is there any Indian export duty or minimum export price on onions?
No. India removed the 20% onion export duty on 1 April 2025, and the minimum export price was scrapped in September 2024. GST on exports is zero-rated. There are currently no Indian-side export levies on red onions.
Do you send a pre-shipment sample to Qatar buyers?
Yes. We send a sample of the exact lot to be loaded before final packing. WhatsApp us with your grade and packing requirement to arrange a sample and get started on WATHEQ documentation at the same time.
