Sourcing Indian food ingredients for European markets

Use this guide to define a product, intended use, destination, quantity, specification, testing, packaging and trade term before requesting an offer. It does not claim that every listed product is currently supplied to every European country.

EU and non-EU Europe are not one import regime

EU requirements apply across EU member states through shared legislation and border-control systems, with product-specific and national enforcement considerations. The United Kingdom and other non-EU European markets use their own authorities and import requirements. The importer must confirm current classification, admissibility, controls, labelling and documentation for the exact product, origin, processing form and intended use.

Information needed from the buyer

  • Destination country and named delivery point
  • Product form and intended food use
  • Trial and annual quantity
  • Complete specification and test methods
  • Required processor certifications and batch documents
  • Packing, labels and pallet requirements
  • FOB/CIF term and requested timing

Pre-order verification

  1. Confirm the exact commodity, processing form and intended use.
  2. Ask the importer or customs representative to verify current classification and controls.
  3. Approve the processor, specification, test methods and documents.
  4. Review representative evidence, then verify the commercial lot.
  5. Agree packing, markings, Incoterm, route and quotation validity in writing.

Official starting points checked 2 October 2026: the European Commission Access2Markets portal, EUR-Lex and the destination authority. UK enquiries require checks against current UK import guidance rather than automatic use of EU rules.
